CAVU is a 501c.3 public charity whose mission is to identify and support innovative community programs and services that enhance the healthcare of underserved children.

CAVU provides funding and technical assistance to help innovative projects and programs in pediatric healthcare take root and grow. We seek to be a catalyzing force within local communities to enable quality healthcare services for children and families in need. In addition to our funding, our program support includes data collections systems-building, sustainability planning, and facilitation of additional funding.

CAVU works with community health centers across Massachusetts on a variety of critical pediatric health needs. Community health centers are a key access point for underserved populations, providing primary, preventive and dental care, as well as mental health, substance abuse and other community-based services to anyone in need regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. Our programs at community health centers fall into two major initiatives/focus areas: Healthy Weight and Healthy Minds. For more about our specific programs, follow the links to the left.

At its core, the success of CAVU and our programs depends on our hands-on leadership and the synergy between three important components: leaders, ideas, and institutions:

Leaders

CAVU is committed to identifying promising community health leaders and to supporting them in developing innovative solutions to ongoing and emerging community health problems.

CLIK Forums (CAVU Leaders and Innovators for Kids) foster a lively dialogue among community leaders and inspire a new generation of CAVU pilot programs that will be driven by dedicated program champions.

Ideas

CAVU seeks to identify not only new ideas, but also new ways of adapting existing solutions in order to best serve children in need.

In some cases, this means taking a new concept and developing a pilot program to test it. In other cases it means adapting existing ideas or pilots to scale their impact for as many kids as possible.

CAVU supports evidence-based ideas that target our focus areas, result in clear clinical outcomes, and are modeled upon sustainability and replicability.

Institutions

The success of our pilot programs depends not only on good ideas and dynamic leadership, but also on active institutional support.

Strong institutions support community health leaders, foster new programs, and also serve as platforms for program replication.

CAVU partnerships with community health centers have been extremely rewarding and we will work to strengthen our existing ties while engaging new institutions to join our growing network.

CAVU works to identify intersections of leaders, ideas, and institutions, and provides funding, program support, and data collection systems to ensure that good ideas become pilots, and that successful pilots are replicated to all communities in need. Once our programs have developed a track record of success, CAVU assists program staff in identifying and securing new funding and program support streams to allow the programs' continued growth.
